WiFi Trees?

Reddit
This image is currently being ciruclated on Reddit, Facebook, Twitter and the rest. It makes an interesting point about how humans prioritse elements of their life. I think it also illustrates how disconnected we are from the impacts of climate change.

Given that... it's not strictly true, as explained by National Geographic.

  1. I thought this image was an interesting comment on environmental priorities but a little contrived and as you've pointed out (like most internet memes) doesn't give the full picture. However I think it's still positive for it to be circulated to make people think about the worth of the planet.

    1. Yes, I think it says a lot about what we care about and our perception of what matters. Perhaps, individually we take too many things for granted and therefore would rather have good wifi than care for the planet?

  2. Although this meme makes an interesting point about our generation and our attachment to wifi and the internet, it isn't telling the truth. I worry that people who see this circulating on social media might think it is. Afforestation, though extremely useful, is not the single method of "saving our planet".

    1. A very good point, in-fact I see afforestation as having had minimal impact on global climate change. I interpreted it as addressing a wider issue of how we rank our priorities, with the climate coming too far down the list!
